Ohio’s Funding Application Summary
The 21st Century Cures Act was passed by Congress and signed into law in late 2016. It is designed to modernize health care through enhanced innovation, research and communication, leading to better patient outcomes. The Act also makes available to states new funding to combat the prescription opioid and heroin crisis through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The bill establishes a system of registration for two kinds of pharmacy technicians (registered pharmacy technicians and certified pharmacy technicians) and pharmacy technician trainees.

General Assembly to revise certain laws regarding the regulation of drugs, the practice of pharmacy, the procedures used by pharmacy benefit managers, and the provision of addiction and mental health services.
Section 4729.45 of the Ohio Revised Code
Pursuant to section 4729.45 of the Ohio Revised Code (effective 4.6.2017), the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required to adopt rules regarding the administration of certain injectable drugs by pharmacists pursuant to both a physician protocol and a prescription.
